You don’t need a massive grip truck or premium-rate gear to create powerful drama. This masterclass is designed specifically around accessible, small-budget equipment. We’ll be working hands-on with everyday indie kits like Nanlites, softboxes, and a Blackmagic 6K, in a real physical space, walking you through every lighting setup and framing decision so you can elevate your production value using the gear you can actually get your hands on.

Neil Oseman has been a director of photography for over 25 years. In that time he has worked on a wide range of narrative productions including 14 feature films, ranging from indie thrillers and horror costing just a few thousands pounds, to the critically acclaimed 2024 Hamlet adaptation starring Ian McKellen, and the $4 million 2018 version of The Little Mermaid with Academy Award winner Shirley MacLaine. He writes regularly for British Cinematographer Magazine, interviewing top DPs like Greig Fraser, Shane Hurlbut and M. David Mullen, and posts lighting breakdowns from his own work on his highly popular Instagram feed. He has given seminars and workshops at – amongst others – Leeds Beckett University, Anglia Ruskin University and the Institute for Amateur Cinematographers.
